While each big gun has a unique playstyle, they all usually tend to focus on AoE (Area of Effect) or CC (Crowd Control) effects and are by no means better than small guns just because of their name. At the same time, their use is much more specialized and it is nothing strange that big gun characters might often find themselves using small guns and weapons from other categories when they are not taking part in a coordinated Zone Control action, since big guns and their ammunition are expensive.
