Join lawyers/brahminboys/family/church. In that order. As for the follow up things, you will have to put some more work.

Disregard from the above the lawyers and brahminboys option, the last thing you will need is to join a semidead faction. As an addition a lot of players in lawyers are just alts from church, no idea about the brahminboys.

Currently the 2 factions actively doing pvp are the Family and the Church so join the one you like the most and then ask for further instructions in faction chat
