Visible status effects on critters
« on: January 20, 2016, 01:42:46 PM »

Since aop doesn't have AAA budget it deserves and only can have the next BBB thing, we ain't gonna be having any super duper cool blood splatter effects and animations for critters, so why not have that replaced with floating icons?

I know this isn't really a hot burning thing, but is it possible to get various status effects like bleeding, burning or w/e thing

Like say, would float near their name if person is typing something?
Spoiler for Like this:
Same for bleeding/whatever else.

ps. Please add 14mm pistol to the spawn pool :[

Snek will be very pleased with 'I'm typing' status effect. Would have to be visible only for squad. Which is on mumble/TS anyways so they know already.

I'd rather have cirn spend his time on perfecting helicopter bungee jumping.

Mayyyyyybe, but most likely that space is reserved for Platoon emblems.

I liked the idea, but if platoon emblems are in that spot, I'm not complaining either

:O platoon emblems

Already know what I'm gonna make mine. Suggestion is good, maybe for other FOnlines but not for AoP since most players use Mumble or teamspeak to communicate. As teela said, this will make easy pickings for snipers and sneakers.

It can be float under name, or above it. Or even overlay slightly over name and/or each other when effect is present.

Look, my mockup is far from what would look good in game. Frankly it looks like ass, but it illustrates what I mean.

I get that majority uses voice nowdays, I get that you have your lovely teamspeaks or mumbles, and thus it's not a must have thing, but it would be better to have it than not (speaking of chat boxes).
I really hope something like this will eventually make into AoP, because it adds things without taking anything away.

And it's an ass to click every single team mate to see if they're bleeding or anything else. This isn't Arma, pls.

If there are platoon icons (eww), it should be possible to hide them.

I get that majority uses voice nowdays, I get that you have your lovely teamspeaks or mumbles, and thus it's not a must have thing, but it would be better to have it than not (speaking of chat boxes).

I have to disagree. Same story as with HP overhead.
As far as I understood the initial reason for no HP indicator next to HP because "too much text on the screen". Side effect is that you can't and don't have to overview everyone's state. You need to have voice comms to be efficient. Thus teamwork and communication instead of number/icon monitoring.
I personally would not like to see HP overhead, but if it was introduced, I would have to use it, because it's a huge simplification and overall advantage.

And it's an ass to click every single team mate to see if they're bleeding or anything else

You don't need to mouse over until you see them getting hit. After they got hit, there are many different types of information you might want to know about them: HP / cripples / bleeding / rest of effects (suppressed etc). Too much to be visible for every (friendly?) player in your view.

What if I integrate VOIP in game.............................

In game voice comm (e.g. project reality alike mumble integration with proximity chat) instead of status icons would be much better to develop the communication based gameplay avoiding the need to eye monitor.

UPD: would require much more improved version than PR alike though. Just mumble won't work: information shared through it is too explicit.

I like this idea a lot. It would take some working, but a visual representation of what a characters malus/boons are would be cool.

i dont think its a good idea , but it might be working with some special perk or special item whcih gives u the ability to see weakness and strenght of opponents. just dont make it in general that everybody can see it , imo it would take alot of suprise effects and discovering the cons of pros of your enemy away.
