Events & Politics / Re: Is there any point playing Family now?
« on: October 24, 2014, 02:12:24 AM »
I think this question needs to be addressed. What is the point of staying in The Family.

1. They can't do any zone control effectively as whenever ZC message pops up that Family is taking a zone the nearest faction immediately goes there as they know The Family has no chance.

2. Game bugs seem to be priority for every other faction except Family. Family entrance merchant has been stuck since yesterday while merchants for other factions are being fixed. Even suggestions like selling all books with one click are considered for other faction but not Family.

3. Family gate is camped most of the time as PK's from other factions go there to have fun shooting n00bs as they know that Family won't send punishing force to retaliate. Because of that scavenging also takes a hit.

Please give a little love to The Family as they are great bunch of lads. If not for this reason do it for the sake of some balance at least.
Your kidding me right? I have yet to be killed by someone outside the Family, from my experience with them, there just a bunch of shoot on sight, gate camping riff raffs who don't speak any English.

That's not true! Most Family speak english all the time, with some russian and spanish ocasionally seen.

General Discussions / Re: Why is the server dead?

This server is not dead, it just got hit into negative hitpoints.

Also lol at people complaining about the four faction system. Its excellent because there are multiple menaces at every angle. If you don't like the four-faction system it means you never were in a fun three or even four-way battle.

If you don't want to belong in a faction, go sewer rat ftw.

Would love to see T45d Power Armor, just make it less slow than this armor and make it consume a lot of energy cells.

I need one of these for my current main, my guy is designed to be tanky and tough so I look foward to boucing your pathetic bullets!

I must say, this armor is interesting. Its slow and bulky as fuck, protects from crits, etc. Seems its weakness is being attacked by Machineguns with high -DR modifiers, or energy weapons. Also, this probrably sucks against sneakers.

On the bad side, I'm kind of scared Armor King is going to cheese it even further, damnit! I need a edge!

I've heard the idea once and there's a certain lure. Maybe they should only appear if nobody did any ZC in certain parts of the map.

Lore-wise, it could be something like The Box in Van Buren's Denver - its essentially some central computer (not a AI) running off some riot control/enemy takeover protocol, and the way it sees is that Phoenix is overrun with rioters because it keeps coming short every time it tries to contact and find the proper lawful authorities - therefore Phoenix is essentially total anarchy zone (which is the right conclusion) because the computer cannot contact nor receive orders from the proper authorities because the city is now under control of communists/rioters/secessionists/something and it may having its communications blocked by hostiles (which is the wrong reasoning) - its too dumb to see that a nuclear war has happened and all its masters are centuries-long dead.

So it reacts by getting hidden robot factories active, cranking all sorts of robots from its hidden robotic assembly lines and doing everything to continue the protocol - like scavenging any necessary materials to build more robots, linking itself to once-inert power sources, sending robots to take the city and supress/anihilate anything that doesn't like Law & Order - which is pretty much

If you guys want I can show and describe the robots from FO1/2/FOT that could totes work in this situation.

I don't see this as having any place in the fallout world, just in regards to every single item of lore I've ever read. Could be a cool feature and whatnot, but I would be against it because it's just not Fallout.

Easily solvable, just make it khans or raiders, any of the badboys from fallout.

Enclave/Bos could fight over town as well.

Raiders might be a "lower level" version of this as well, with different tactics and weaponry.
Disagree on Enclave/BOS, they don't work as "mob" sort of enemies - the average Enclave trooper or BOS Paladin should be able to wipe entire groups of players, alone. Enclave is low-key during 2220s and if BOS wanted to take the city, they would simply send squads of Paladins into the four faction bases and kill everyone, the end.

Confirm. It seems the server is overloaded with some shit (tons of junk in core locations, not erased locations after assignments etc.)

We should organize core-cleaning services - keep our fair metropolis clean! I always try to get that junk in the core when I can.

I'm a nationalistic chauvinist, so which side winning is better for Brazil?
Nah, you are a simple human, each and every one of us is like that.

Well, some of us are racial supremacists/nationalists, others are ideological chauvinists, then there's religious supremacists and these weird people who believe in uniting all the globe under one-world government (thanks but I will pass). But yeah, we're all tribal in all our ways and frankly, that's how I like it.

On the plus side, we're having a election here in Brazil. Current president is pro-eurasian, pro-china and pro-russia and her competitor is more interested in dealing with Europe, USA and liberal south american countries on the pacific coast. So a Aécio Neves win is a (small?) strike against Putin, so if you root against Putin, root against Dilma Rousseff!

Huh, globalized world is sure wacky like that...

Lemme see:

1. Using the remmy even after the nerf. A pity, it used to be my favorite gun, one remmy, a box of flechette and a mob of vtecs rushing through a door = five blue geckos falling on their asses.

2. First char had 5 PE instead of 7. Before my reroll, I kept getting killed by sneakers. Also wasted two perks with Hawk and Watchtower because of that.

3. Took quite a while to figure out Alt + 5. Seriously.

4. Every time I use the Walther PL. Why why why I keep bringing that shitgun to my TL1 core runs is beyond me, 10mm SMG is way better. That shit exists only to be scienced.

5. Little story: Almost got pwned by some vtec n00b called Anal Rofl because my new char's bleedover between SG and BG was still low and all I had were shitty SGs and he had a combat shotty. The real mistake is that after being chased away from north of Eastern Square, I hid in Verde, healed, came back and started shouting for him to come 1v1.

I then went after him (with a better SG but still shitty aim) and he pwned me again, so I ran away towards Verde again, where in my urge to flee I didn't notice the exploded body of a adventurer until I stepped on a mine and went down with negative HP, but not dead yet. I heard another explosion, and then started waiting for my death at my foe's hands (or bleeding). My bleeding somehow stopped before I died and there I was for a few minutes, almost-dead on the ground and calling for help in the faction chat. I was like "WTF, still alive?!"

Then after a few minutes, I regenerated back to plus HP, stood up again and evaluated my surroundings while FAing...

Then Anal Rofl put a deagle bullet in my head and I was dead, this time for sure.

Joining V-tec.

JOIN THE FAMILY!

good guy, you need to enhance your writing.

Don't think BOS would make good villains, they're a relatively small organization and rarely interfere in the affairs of the wasteland, not to mention that by 2220s they're not as aggressive as they become later on.

I think BOS should be ultra-rare in AoP and a single BOS paladin should be able to fight a party of 6-10 players all by himself, and a paladin squad should be able to challenge a ZC squad with the best gear. Remember HELIOS One? 1:20 disadvantage, NCR loses thousands of soldiers, BOS loses 50-100 because they're in a bad defensive position against a immense horde of enemies.

A splinter faction of the BOS, especially one with access to large hordes of cannon fodder somehow (robots? clones?), on the other hand...

ghouls from hell?

You're just minding your own bussiness along your friend, looking for enemies to catch, when a mob of 500 HP ghouls throwns a bunch of grenades, gunshots and plasma bolts at your general direction. You all die in less than thirty seconds. The end.

I always thought that the problem of the old FOnlines is that they used the existing world and mechanics to build upon a MMORPG. AoP did the inverse - They built the the mechanics and world to make a MMORPG. The setup is simple, easily-understandable and brillant - Four factions fighting upon the rich ruins of a pre-war city.

I don't think the problem is that the game is hard. Other FOnline severs are way harsher, loot is hard come easy go. In AoP, loot is easy comes easy goes, which is much more balanced and less exploitable. It also is even better that most fights are in the Core and loot after death remains in the core, so rather than dying in a random encounters and having your laser fall into the worldmap vacuum never to be recovered, you can go back and take your laser if you wish.

What we need is more stuff to do. The main things to do atm are Assigs (can't type assignment without 'ass')
Core Run (I enjoy going on a core run, shooting critters with TL1 weaponry, scaving and trying to avoid PKs),
PvP hunting (fun, but carebears are getting too cowardly to enter the Core lately),
ZC (hellafun but needs more people and more rewards. I miss the times I could long on a weekend and ZC all day until I was down to TL1 gear and fifty caps) and Dungeons (of which there's only one).

But then again, this server is on its beginnings, the devs just finished swimming through a ocean of bugs and even then we had around two months full of people.

Some people stopped playing Fonline due to this 4 faction system. They're forced to play with complete noobs and if not a lot of people in their faction on,they can't do anything.  Some just want to PvP but can't.  I say there would've be a lot more players if it were something with towns /TC/random encounters /something like the other Fonlines.

I dsagree.
The four-faction system is actually the best innovation of AoP.
1. It makes people socialize, a must-have in MMORPGs.
2. In old FOnlines, a serious problem is that everyone can be friend or enemy until you know them. Appropriate, but bad for mechanics because it leads to Prisoner's Dilemma, and it usually ends with someone being killed.
In AoP, its much easier: Everyone with a different colour is the enemy. So something like 1/4 of the server is on your side, which is a huge improvement over the old FOnlines where 98% of players are possible enemies.
3. It encourages co-operation. Things like donations to noobs, gambling in base, etc. Faction Chat also makes it much less annoying to talk to your fellow faction mates than using IRC or a radio, even if faction chat is full of spies (which adds a interesting factor) and important info is only said on squad chat or TS.
4. It ends the old annoying PK/APK shitfight that destroyed FOnline 2238.
5. It provides easier storing of goods.

If your faction is full of noobs, then find non-noobs, foster those noobs into non-noobs (what we did at The Family) or get another faction (what the former Lidae's Lightbringers did).

Yes but I only have one "friend"  the rest of the BB's seem to only speak Russian :/

Then switch factions? I think the others are mostly english-speaker majority.
I haven't seen a Brahmin Boy in days.

I'm in search of riches though ;)

Then arm yourself and force your way through, kill on the way to riches. Really you are missing the fun and it's unfortunate, try harder fight harder. Going to a warzone in a bluesuit unarmed is retarded.

Also not sure if you use your gate to scav but I think bb gate is the more deserted with less chance to encounter anyone, yesterday scavenged warmart 2 times and once hospital from your gate and not a single encounter. Also try to kill enemy scavengers you will become richer than just scavenging.

Yeah you have to be unlucky as hell to get shot in BB gate, its the most deserted of all gates and the cover means I love using it because its safer for me than my own's, especially if I'm on the way to Warmart/PD. There also seems a lot less spawns of dangerous enemies on the way, like Robbers and Ghouls From Hell.

Family has the best hunters, so best faction.

This is going to be a great asset soon, for reasons I've explained in our talks.

Teamkilling and ppl camping at gates is really starting to agitate me, is there any way to host your own server?

You're missing the point of AoP - its about four factions fighting to control a city. In my faction (Family), if our gate is being camped we ask for a deathsquad to purify our gate.

If someone is TKing you, stay away from them or get friends in your faction that TK back. Or join another faction - I would suggest Family but we're running short on prey already.

Also, don't forget:

1. You can camp their gate with your friends.
and
2. You can decamp your gate by killing the campers with your friends.
and
3. You can see if there are people near the entrance through town preview
and
4. You can use your enemies' gates to enter the Core, too.

This a good little idea for a TL3 item. Need a unique sprite but black or camo'ed CA would do.

Didn't FT use octagons (8 side)? I don't think FT characters will work in FO. Also the style is different.

I thought FT used squares?
I'm 100% sure that FT characters can and will work on FOnline. Yeah, the style is different but it would be a make-do. Also, just don't use the extra directions. Pretty sure FOnline support FOT-like characters.

We're having a similar problem in the Van Buren Project, we got 3D player animations (like the ones in FOT) but we really lack Ghoul and Super Mutant 3D animations so we will have to make do with FOT Ghouls atm.

Ghouls could use the Fallout Tactics animations, I'm sure someone already has every FRM of FOT ghouls stashed. No CA animations tho (unless they have been made already?) and you can use a certain set of Tb51 PA made for FOT as their Power Armor animation.

Super Mutants, on the other hand... well you could use the FOT animations but the Super Mutant sprite is weird and doesn't have some of the anims we might need.
