Yeah, such symptom you're describing typically comes from the absence of MASTER and CRITTER.dat. Add them into your game main folder, just where FOnlineGL.exe and FOConfig.exe are. Then it should work. Don't forget to use FOnlineGL.exe to launch the game.

Planck, could you update your list more clearly? Seems like all bugs aren't mentioned in it. Would be useful, thanks in advance.

Client has been updated. For those who already got one, better redownload it. Client should be stabilized in the next version.

Afaik we use it, and I made fixes based on it for other geckos. Strange is, geckos are not the only mobs to be glitching while it wasn't that much the case a few weeks ago. I'll have to investigate.

That's a good question. We'll do our best to talk about the game and hopefully motivate people enough to test it. In any case, we'll just start the beta phase, we're not talking about release yet. There is still plenty of exciting stuff to develop, though we hope that AoP is now advanced enough for the community to get a decent picture of it. On our side, this test will allow us to develop on a proper basis, clean and tested. So, wait and see... for now.

Hello Slitaz, thanks for your support. We're working hard every day to get the game ready as soon as possible. At the moment, some tasks are still not advanced enough to start the OBT, but we're getting closer and closer. Can't yet announce any date, but for sure that's not gonna take months before we start.

I moved your thread to a new public part, so that everyone can read it. ;)

An addition to answers already given by John:

1:
You will choose your faction at the beginning of your adventure but not before you had the occasion to learn more about them. This process is constituting a step in the tutorial. There are multiple reasons for that, one of them being that factions provide their members with a lot of goods, tasks and global objectives, as well as a general philosophy and intimate enemies. Having a non-aligned group in the game would force us to organize it similarly as players need to have access to the whole game content. And thus, it would basically constitute one more faction at the end. You have to understand that factions are not working the same as gangs used to do in previous FOnline games, or basically as guilds are used to do in other MMO's. Factions in AoP constitute entire communities, with their own principles, rules, inner ways of thinking, struggles for power, influences that will be also brought by their members - the players themselves. A constellation of attitudes and personalities will be present in every faction. That's something we support, and that is already present in factions even before they are influenced by players. Through squads - the AoP term for gangs or guilds - affiliated to those factions, players will play their role in the overall politics of their faction. You just have to find a faction that fits to your taste.

Factions are just as important in AoP as they are in games such as Planet Side, Dark Age of Camelot or even Word of Warcraft. You need to belong to one to be involved in the game world. Note that the reputation system will allow you to change your allegiance, you'll not be stuck within a faction forever or until you remake a new character. Also, remember that your own reputation will allow you take profit of more developed relationships with other factions as well. This is not an idle world: it's permanently evolving.

We already examined the possibility of having loners as a feature in the game. There is yet no conclusion, but in any case, that would be only for advanced players, and with quite big gameplay restrictions to accept. There is no plan for such a feature is the near future.

2:
The Core is a huge location, with many places to discover and guard. Driving people out of it would be counter productive, as John pointed out. If we wanted to add such outposts, we would add them in. But since they would be potentially subject to primary issues such as alting, there is no plan to add anything like that at the moment.

Can't say that's really funny, but that may be because in Belgium we got the most talented comedian, which made hidden camera's and lots of jokes in which he played various roles, including totally dumb people repeating the same shit over and over to some random people passing by, or vicious policeman, or even a totally retarded IT adviser. I remember how once he was annoying a guy coming to a meeting with a tuned car, forcing him to repeat all his sentences with an exaggerated and totally stupid English accent. The guy was too shy to react, and afair they reviewed almost all the pieces of the car until he finally let him go xD

A random very short one in which he talks a bit of English:

Pity, I can't find any good subtitles for some of his major scenes, but anyway, it wouldn't be possible to translate most of what he says, since he plays with words all the time.

General Discussions / Re: So now that 2238 is dead...
« on: June 12, 2013, 05:17:28 AM »
Oliver, we just can't spam about AoP on 2238's board (or anywhere else), it would be both offensive and counter-productive. Game is not ready yet, so if people decide to leave FOnline now, we can just hope that they'll come back one day or another. Now, if you wanna do some advertising, keep people informed that AoP is being developed and spread the word in new places, you're welcome to do it. The time we don't spend on that task is time we'll spend on something else for the best of AoP.

Also, personally, I'm not afraid of FOnline playerbase size. I don't consider it reduced nor fixed to a maximum amount of players. Some people discovered FOnline every day and liked it, and the more Fallout's franchise is alive, the more potential players FOnline gets. Then, number of FOnliners that stays on the long term depends on the games' quality (gameplay, content and universe), and their accessibility. That's probably one of 2238's worst mistakes: bringing a game in which a newbie has a so harsh time getting how it works, being owned just because necessary information was not given to him at proper ingame occasions, that he gives up quickly after his first attempt. This issue was not considered seriously enough by the devs, which had most probably not enough data to point it out too... But I've seen how hundreds of people yelled about how the game was shitty just because it didn't let them discover its content. FOnline is not a die-and-retry game. That's not how you make a game harsh and that's definitely not the way to show game's potential to players. We're very aware of that, and we'll make sure AoP doesn't follow this way.

A) pvp server doesn't mean that pve can't exist as well. Pve has to play his part, for multiple reasons that I won't enumerate here. Encounters are meant to represent another thing to do: exploring places. That's how it's gonna be, finding good mobs to fight and shelters to plunder will be an interesting activity on AoP. Finding crafting components will remain possible that way too.

B) Well, that is unfortunately impossible. Though, it is not a problem for me that most players use SG's. That's how it is. Players that want to experience other weaponry will still have a lot of nice toys to use. Anyway, since SG are divided into different categories that are used in different conditions, I doubt any player with any SPECIAL will be able to use everything with the same efficiency. That difference can be seen as similar to the lack of weapons perks you suffer if you try to use SG's when you're used to manipulate EW.

C) Crafting components will be changed, a lot deleted, and all will be found in more precise locations and conditions. There is a lot of changes planned for crafting, it's too early to expose anything yet.

D) The Core will evolve to V2, and will include exits as you say, among many other things. That's one of the key steps to the beta.

E) Yes, easier said than done. The map has always been planned to illustrate the region around you, to allow you to visit it. It won't have a strong influence such as on other servers, but we think you'll find it pretty satisfying when all its functions will be implemented. Going to expeditions will be a way to do something different than the conquest of the Core.

Thanks for the feedback!

So when there will be more faction, all of them will have a faction that is its ennemy ?

Yes.

Quote
This factions vs factions reputation would change over time or be permanent ?

Probably permanent.

Quote
Everyone would be able to check it ?

Yeah, of course, that's something "official".

Quote
If the Lawyer faction is ennemy of the family faction, no Lawyer player/member would be able to have good reputation with family faction ?

Yes, that's it. But if you leave Lawyers for another faction, and then manage to improve your Family reputation, you'll eventually be able to join them.

Quote
Of course, those kind of things would only matter with more than two factions...

Indeed :)
