Title: A suggestion to revamp Phoenix zone.
Post by: Planck on October 16, 2014, 11:54:08 PM
I know that each zone has its own separate "map". And that camping zone exits and switching maps can feel like it takes you out of the game...so I thought, would it be possible to make phoenix just one huge map. Or is it not capable for the fonline engine to run such a huge instance?

Would it also be possible to make it so people didn't see doors etc opening especially when they aren't actually in range/sight.

I believe server can easily hold up to 70+ players on a single map, no intel what happens if more will come. (Still I'm gonna bet that "performance" is not the actual problem here.)

2nd one is possible only if you will replace every "interactable" prop (doors, crates ... ) with NPCs.
There were several other topics discussing the very same suggestion, I believe the answer was somewhere there. Unfortunatelly, you'll have to search it on your own.

One huge map is not about server.

For example tla with bigger maps take huge toll on player side computers. And its only npcs when player get inside its like double fps drop than normal

Novatto dungeons (which are like 50+ maps at a single location) with tons of npcs don't make your pc excrement masonry. (talking about TLA here).

I had lags on cathedral location on TLA, when others didn't, usually people play Fallout on old pcs.

It's a joke ;D.
I can't even say that my pc "costs" something, it's a completely self-configured pc. Probably around 15k rubles or so (~365$)

That's exactly the cost. Mine is about 11-12k rubles (without HDD, monitor and peripheral devs), bought a month ago for next 3-5 years.

1480 / 4 = 370; 370 * 30 = 11k rubs. Yeah, I still count  that dollar is around 30 rubs, sorry about that.
