Is it always better to take sharpshoot instead of gain pe? Or more to the point, if I have 9 PE + sharpshooter will my effective range grow more than taking 10 PE without sharpshooter?
-
of course it will, but you wont get the extra sight range. that's the point of it.
-
I never understood sharpshooter, if you max your guns you are going to have max hit chance anyway right?
-
wait so max gun skill will give max effective range, regardless of PE? (assuming PE is at minimum enough for fov to be as far as the max. effective range)
-
No, there is min str of weapons and your character STr to consider, as it slightly effects your hit chance.
-
but then the question becomes, if I have enough ST for the weapon, and 250% skill, and 9 PE .... will sharpshooter increase my effective range or not
-
I've been dumbfounded by the effects of the Sharpshooter perk as well. The eff. range and the max. range of my weapons has not changed. I don't know if what was meant to change was the % chance to hit outside the %95 chance box (eff.range), or if it's a bug. I'm a 10 PE character, but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

First of all, 5<PE only affects your effective range if you do aimed shots. Torso shots only suffer hit chance penalty if PE is 4 or lower.
Aimed shots: With low weapon skill (150-200), PE plays important role in amied shots' hit chance, but if you reach 250, or just say it is above 200, PE only have minimal effect.
According to Range Calculator app made by 3.14 (http://fonline-aop.net/forum/index.php?topic=1110.0):
At 250 weapon skill / 70 max weapon range, with every point of extra PE your effective range increases by ~1 hex which is very marginal. Sharpshooter counts as 2 PE.
For lower weapon range (like 40-50) 1 extra point of PE does less than 1 hex increase. For high range (100) it will do a bit more than 1 hex.
I fear this is true. PE is definitely not the STAT what you want to max out, even if you are sniper, unless you have OCD.

PE gives you sight range, hit chance (for aimed or when below 5 pe), critical perception
sharpshooter gives you only hit chance but like 2 pe (for aimed or when below 5pe)
they are both fair

edit : if ss is working properly then it should reduce aim penalty = more eff range but some ppls are saying that it isnt.. didnt tested by myself

thanks for response about chance to hit + PE, that clears things up a bit. I think I will leave PE at 9 and not bother with sharpshooter :)
