Title: Battlefield 2 - Project Reality
Post by: paragon on December 08, 2015, 01:44:11 PM
Yo
Does anyone play PR? I'm pretty bad in it but random squads are certainly worse. I might use couple of known people in my squad.
If you doesn't know, what is it, it's something like arma, ie war simulator aka running simulator. It's free to play.

does it still run as a bf2 mod or did they make a standalone?

I used to play PR, but I've moved on to Squad (http://joinsquad.com/)

Stopped playing 1.0 just because I got tired of the arbitrary mechanics in place because of the engine.
Love it though, don't get me wrong. Days spent drinking and driving logi trucks to-and-fro will not be forgotten.

There's no vehicles yet, is there? Can't imagine how to play running simulator without vehicles

No, sadly. A couple more patches and that might change though. Its still in pretty early Alpha but damn fun.

Pre-sales on steam from 15 Dec, I bet $20++ ?
I am annoyed by the crutches in PR, but not that strong to pay for squad in alpha, I guess.

I paid on kickstarter mostly because I wanted to fund them. Getting into the Alpha was a bonus. And yeah It'll be 40 on release. So far the devs have been working pretty fast and have made good on everything they've said.

I'm still playing it and became a real junky to it.
Social element is amazing, mechanics is deep and gives lot of tactical opportunities.
Experience is very non-repetitive and grind free. What I always thought open worlds should give but they never actually did anything similar to PR.
It's close to Planet Side 2, but free to play and fully non-commercial, thus everyone is equal except bug abusers and cheaters and server admins.
Shooter mechanics is designed to reduce rambo-ness and doing its job pretty well. And still it's 1 shoot 1 kill if you do it right.

Game is buggy, client and servers are crashing all the time, if you like aop, you will feel like at home!
Many things are not intuitive and controls/ui/graphics are shitty and not gonna become better (:
Sometimes no admins present on the server, so grief and teamkilling do amazingly devastating things.
There are shitheads present, which are waiting forward to insult or frustrate you or just do stupid things and ruin whole team hardwork on archiving the victory.

I doubt Squad will ever be anything similar due to the fact it's commercial project and should be much more fashion-like vanilla to get more $$$

I lead public infantry squads free for you to join.

Would have to disagree about the part where it will never reach PR levels of awesome. All the former devs are from PR for the most part, AND they're actually getting paid to make this. The devs have stated many times the goal is to create a successor to PR. Free Rerolls Man, are you US or EU? I could definitely be up for a round or 2 sometime.

As a part of my PR experience, I've met these guys:

Quote
Spearhead
VIX USQUE CUSPIDEM

Clan Focus

Spearhead as a clan balances between competitiveness and social interaction. Our aim is to create an environment where you, as a member, can grow as a leader. We encourage our members to challenge their limits, develop their social skills and improve their ability to solve problems. Summarized in three words, Spearhead focuses on communication, coordination and leadership.

What we expect from you

Asides from respecting others and being a overall decent human being, there is a set of additional requirements we expect of our members.

- All members of Spearhead are expected to maintain a high level of communications, whatever it is on a squad-, team- or inter team level.

- Members of Spearhead are, within reasonable limits, active on Teamspeak, interacting with the rest of the clan. We have no problem with members being away for longer periods of time, as long as we know about first.
- As a member, we expect you to strive forward, to explore your own capabilities. We do not pressure you, but there is nothing more we like to see than members improving their leadership skills.

Where can you find us?

Hit us up at teamspeak: ts.alwaysbased.com(Spearhead Channels) Poke or talk to one of the leaders and hang out with us, we're always in for fresh blood and like minded people!

Original (http://www.alwaysbased.com/units/) - click spearhead.

Some additional ideas about why do I care are here, mostly by disnoxxio discussion branch (https://www.reddit.com/r/ProjectReality/comments/1z3m8w/project_reality_tutorial_being_a_better/) and this thread  (http://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr-bf2-general-discussion/140760-clanmates.html).

Even though they claim to "lose that focus" in my Application topic (http://www.alwaysbased.com/threads/paragonid-application-for-spearhead.1282/#post-14791), I find that idea nice to follow if I play AoP and gonna start Spearhead branch.
