Title: Would you want damage screen effect?
Post by: cirn0 on September 09, 2014, 02:51:55 PM
I feel like when you are getting shot it isn't very noticeable, especially in big mob PvP. Would you guys want some sort of screen effect to show that YOU are being hit / knockdowned / low health / suppressed / ect.

And of course if I make this there will be an option that can turn the feature on or off.

This seems like an obvious one. "Do you want a visual feature that can be disabled?"

There are those who will want it. Those who don't want it can just turn it off, so they wouldn't care. Why vote no?

To be the one and only, obv.
I would prefer a more "noticeable" bleed status, sometimes it just builds up way too fast to even notice it.

How about 1 where the screen turns gray as you lose HP. Less HP = Grayer screen. 0 HP is no color at all then turns black as you get closer to -100/200

You will have the option to disable it, so why no.
I think something like a bloody frame around the screen like in cod would be cool.

if someone hits you from left side of map you gonna have blood spot on left side of your screen , if from right side of map - right side of your screen , up attack - up blood , down - down.
It may be hard to implement but i think it would be coolest damage screen effect.

some example

I would prefer digital numbers of bleed and other statuses :P

OR 0-25-50-75-100 percentages on the meter
Btw we're off-toping ^^

If it is a feature that can be disabled there is literally no reason to not add it.

Yes but not that red screen flash crap that they put in FPS games, that is just annoying.

This is a fucking good idea you have to do.
Currently I can be shoot and not know it ( cause I'm looking at other stuff ) and that sucks.
So I hope you will add these blood sample on hit.. I would agree for more : some sound on hit ?

Could we have this as a (glsl)shader? Use a full screen quad, the application would provide a texture sampler, type of hit ( melee, single, burst, explosion?),  a direction(?), maybe a time variable to seed some random location of the splatter or to fade the effect out, the rest can be done in the shader and it would be highly customizable.
If the rendered scene would be made available to that shader we could have radial or motion blur and many other fun screen space effects ;)

It would most likely be a shader.

Direction indication?  Probably not.

And just for educational purposes, the FOnline SDK does not natively support post process effects so I don't get to fiddle with the raster :(. The shader has to be attached to sprites, UI, or 3D primitives.

I think it should just be a highlight of some kind around the HP display. flashy screen may by helpful but also hinder some. I am distracted easily and would like this option to be turned on, but if it is to intrusive I will turn it off. Maybe a sexy sounding woman who soothingly alerts you, "Warning, hostiles engaged."

Just add this, better than any graphic effects.
