Suggestions / Re: Trading Outposts
« on: October 16, 2014, 03:06:09 AM »
This has been really often suggested, I bet its coming in the big patch.

Quote
- Make a single outpost in the core preferably in the center (I don't know how that would work though, I guess you would have to scrap one location and replace it with the outpost)

I think one problem of the trading outpost/safe heaven/neutral zone is that the Core is in the dead middle of the map, that would be the ideal location for it.

Putting it INSIDE the Core is a bad bad bad idea because people will camp grids.

A idea that I had yesterday is that you can access it from the Faction Gate of your faction like you access a part of the Gate's map, but rather than sending you to the Gate's map, it sends you to the Neutral Zone's map, from which you can only leave to the worldmap (and back to your gate).

Quote
I think there really needs to be a reason to not be in a faction, and a trading outpost would definitely make it rain cheese from the sky. I know I would ditch the BrahminBoys and go straight to the outpost

I think this should't be only non faction advantage, but it could work.
I have some factionless suggestions, but I will make them later, through.

I think assigs in the core might be a bit problematic if people shoot your targets dead and steal their stuff before you do. Maybe load assig-targets once you get into the assig zone?

But yes, we need to get people out of assigs and bases and inside the Core. The new caravan-ZC system might help with that because people will want to raid those caravans.

High level assigs are quite good. I don't do anything below S, through.
Try to trade more in your base to get higher persuasion, it helps a bit.
Alternatively, go scav in Warmart, its full of stuff you can sell to the junk trader. Junk is how I get most of my money these days. Bring food for maximum scaving.
Some items can also be crafted and sold to shops, I heard mega power fist is good for this.

My current mouse has a broken mouse wheel and that means its kinda very annoying to fiddle with the squad interface and the leadership implants because I can't scroll down because my mouse wheel doesn't work and pageup/down or directionals don't do it either.

This could go for inventory too, its kinda annoying to have to click on the button if you have no mouse wheel.

Developer Corner / Re: Assault Rifles

The problem is with DR. Assault rifles will never be better than snipers for single aimed shot, nor better than BG for burst and this is all for good purpose. So what does Assault have? Single unaimed fast shots, but with people running around with 80% DR and 17 DT,  you are lucky to get 20 damage a shot for like 20 AP.

I think flat dmg bonuses should be a nice start. FN-FAL is such a underpowered rifle, for example, it fires 7,62mm x 51mm yet it doesn't seem really more powerful than your bog-standard 5,56mm x 45 rifle.

How about changing MGs and miniguns by increasing AP use AND damage and reducing their accuracy? So they're slow to fire but capable of firing immense amounts of high-powered bullets all around while a assault rifle is good at firing precise, short bursts or double-taps?

Suggestions / Re: Run speed depends on Agility
« on: October 15, 2014, 02:20:09 AM »
This makes sense, but...

Won't this lead to ridiculous kiter builds?

Also fighting critters is very run speed dependant - the most dangerous critters are the ones that can keep pace with the player (Alien Matriarch, Deathclaws, human enemies, centaurs and floaters, geckos, etc) while the weakest are the slower ones that lack some uber ranged attack or HP bloat (normal ghouls, radscorpions, wannamingos, mantises). The only exceptions to that rule are slower enemies with strong ranged attack and HP bloat, like Super Mutants and the odd well-armed and ridiculously tough ghouls from hell that pop up in the Core sometimes.

So anything that messes with Run Speed is a lot bigger than what it seems, because it messes with both PvP and PvE.

Game Tips & Guides / Re: Ultimate Sewer Rat (factionless) build?
« on: October 15, 2014, 02:16:09 AM »
Whenever I think of factionless players all I can think of is a melee-sneak as a viable choice.

I thought about it, too. Easy to get the weapons, minimal ammo needs, easy scaving.

Doesn't the recent increase of SEC by Stealthboy coupled by the fact Stealthboys are very very very rare in The Core makes it inviable? Seems like only way to get one is to kill a sneaker.

Game Tips & Guides / Ultimate Sewer Rat (factionless) build?
« on: October 15, 2014, 12:49:33 AM »
So I've been thinking about doing a new char and playing Sewer Rat-style for teh lulz.

So, what would be the best build for a self-reliant loner without a faction?
Remember:
- Sewer Rats have no craft benches (so no use in relics and crafting components besides trade)
- Sewer Rats have no traders (besides other players) - also makes misc junk useless
- Sewer Rats have no companions to tank, heal or defib
- Sewer Rats have no room to stash or put containers in
- No Assigs

Here's what I got with some thinking, so far:

- CH 100% useless

- PE very useful, you will need extra ability to see people from afar. Alternatively, go low PE and keep away from open spaces through sewer crawling.

- EN vital, you don't have anyone to defib or heal you.

- ST doesn't sound useful, most guns don't require much ST and you don't need much carry weight because you will be doing quick loots and going to stash it somewhere hidden within the Core.

- For combat skill, I think the best tags are Small Guns and Close Combat. Small Guns are easy to find in the Core, ammo too. Close Combat is even easier to find the good weaponry and allows you something to scrap by if you run out of ammo.

- Remember - you can't buy ammo or craft. You have to get by scavenging, killing NPCs and trading with players (good luck not getting shot instead) - Big Guns and Energy depend a lot of trading for ammo and crafting for the best weaponry, so they don't seem to be worth it.

(throwing might be useful too)

- For secondary skills, Leadership is useless (unless Sewer Rats can enter faction squads or make squads with their sewer rat pals, then it could be useful), traps are useless (because you can't craft), First Aid/Doctor are clearly best. Sneak might be either very useful or useless, because you can't buy stealthboys and energy cells, so you essentially depend on random luck or PKing to get them.

- Sewer Rats don't get attacked by patrols (unless epic negative rep) so they can use them to ward potential attackers that are hostile to the patrol. Hanging near patrols in say, Lawyer-controlled Verde might be a good ideia.

Thinking if a Sewer Rat player is best serviced by a sniper build or a tank close-combat build that rellies on using sewer crawling and close spaces to snuff out sneakers and kill snipers out of their element or just going sneaker/CC somehow and stabbing people in the back.

- Can a Sewer Rat tag someone from a faction and go into a dungeon? Might be a nice source of items.

Maybe a lot of players will throw shit on me but I dont care. Fonline based ONLY on pvp always will die. Why?

Beacuse people will get bored. If You dont want people get bored You need role play aspects(and also some people who want destroy roleplay), beacuse it is good thing for "fallout world" fans.

AoP does need more PvE content - I don't consider Assigs PvE content because assigs are pure grinding against hp bloat npc swarms. I notice I see more people doing dungeons lately.

One little help to PvE was taking out diminishing XP rewards, its now worth it to fight critters in the Core.

Next thing what we need in fonline is camapign(for example different quests for each factions). There should be relation with special encounters and some special quests.

Yeah, we really need that. Through there is some new stuff coming like those ZC enhancements, like the caravans that go to each zone towards gates.

One little thing we could have is the often-suggested neutral haven outside the Core where the factions are prohibited from fighting, might be cool to go into a bar and smack talk your rivals, trade with them(capitalism will find a way!) and maybe even a zone for non-lethal bar fights, too? I got a funny scene in my head of lawyers and family breaking some chairs on each others' heads while Vtecs and BBs ponder what to do in a Prisoner's Dilemma.

Quote
Next thing is small scale pvp, not only zone controll where swarm gather. But in AoP small pvp will never apperar cuz characters got too much resists etc and weapons are still not balanced(but I understand that for some people it needs time to notice it).

Wot mate? I see small scale pvp most of the time, in Family there's almost always someone going on hunts against other factions. I don't think characters got too many resists either, get a better weapon.

What really dampens small scale PvP is the lack of setups for it aside from the obvious PvP hunts and gate camping. Caravans might help with that.

Problem is, we need more content inside Phoenix that makes people leave base for anything other than naked core runs or ZC. Too many gheys staying inside their base carebearing and doing assigs repeatedly so they can stroke their gold piles in a stereotypically jewish way instead of going on ZC or PvP hunts with the cool people.

Yeah weapons aren't balanced yet, although so far AoP is the most balanced server I've seen. As it is, energy weapons are mostly shit, Assault Rifles are wonky, SMGs suck, melee is weird fist of the north star shit, pistols are mostly good, shotguns got weakened since the dinosaur remmy nerf, machineguns, grenades and small/big sniper rifles are king.

Quote
Remember that there are a lot of fans of fallout over the world and not all of them are interested only in killing people. If you want those players on Your server You need to make it friendly for them.

Roleplay should't be separated from gameplay. I'm roleplaying a... family member, fighting for the Family against the Family's enemies. We're skinning blue geckos and other enemies, smoking crack pipes, gambling, crafting, going on assigs, co-operating etc.

AoP is probrably the most casual-friendly FOnline server I've seen. Loot is easy and abundant to the point the ground is full of things (most of them useless to most, but hey), critters can be avoided or killed, players can be fought, noticed or fled from, there's the sewers, the four faction system ensures sociability, unlike the original FOnlines which encouraged free-for-all mentality and people pretty much shot everyone they didn't know, any casual needing help can just ask.

I don't mind more PvE but the game's focus should be PvP first and foremost, because no critter will ever give more challenge than a human opponent.

As for ZC itself, it really needs to be more rewarding. As it is, you're essentially doing a huge gamble to get someone's else gear, or you lose yours. Or nobody comes and you've wasted twenty minutes telling people to position their characters right - then once you leave some ghey starts a cap again.

My only EW suggestions are a sneak-EW, making Pulse Pistol non-useless and add Multiplas and Laser RCW.

You're family... clearly.
sabbarab alone kills at least 20 of you idiots every day.

sabbarab is practically the boss critter of vtec gate/enterprises by now. I hear they send lone noobs to duel him 1x1 as a test of their mettle.

Most are found wanting.

AS far as I'm concerned   DDDDDDDDD  is a spy.  We got pinched by 2 different factions at once rolling around with this guy, multiple times, until we just put a good burst in him.  he didn't complain about being killed, didn't even mention it.  We were all on TS, but he had no warning .  Just the fact that he didn't ask why makes me think he's a spy.

I remember one of these, I also think he's one. We were getting ambushed and killed even through our enemies should't know where we were, and I remember a ZC where the Vtecs didn't even enter the area but rather camped the grid next zone over (the grid was our way out) and had JC Denton mine the street - either the Lawyers told on us or the Vtecs had a spy, and I think DDDD was there that day. Never went on assigs with him either, and barely know him, and I know pretty much the who's who's of Family members, especially the OGs.

There's also jewish who I'm pretty sure was a spy, no idea for who.

as a lawyer member, i'll tell you that Arnold Zweihander is a dick to everyone, therefore he's not a spy sicne he obliterated me a few days ago and took my shit at the core

Well that just leaves two factions for him to spy to.

If Arnold is a spy for The Family, then he's a bit too good at it and should learn to go a bit soft  on me.

I don't mind strong mobs, but there's a difference between being pounced by Super Mutants in hospital and then being pounced by a pack of deathclaws in Eastern Square.

Also, deathclaws really need a power-up and more rarity, I think they're too common lately.

Never trust A Rat, he's A Rat for the Lawyers and will set up to be ambushed by a zillion heavily-armed Lawyers who will take turns sodomizing your corpse. No, really, what you expected?

Family Gate is pretty much sniper heaven with all these open fields, you have to be in a hurry, a band or simply cray-cray to go through there. Compare to Vtec gate which is full of cover and buildings everywhere.

I do think spaws were ok the last time I played, I remember seeing at late September some weird mob locations, like a entire pack of Deathclaws inside some random house in Polymer.
