Big Energy Weapons
« on: September 22, 2014, 11:14:55 PM »

Recently I wanted to make another EW build, as my first failed miserably, and then I realized my options were kind of limited.  for anything other than torsospam or sniping, it seemed like the Gatling laser was my only option for BG-type Energy Weapons.  What I propose is the possible addition of things like plasma throwers, electricity weapons ( e.g. a giant electric arc throwing welder powered by an industrial capacitor or something)
and others. There is a lot of really cool possibilities, and I would be willing to do art for the implementation.

Two words: Smitty's Special/Turbo Plasma Rifle. We could have it as a burst-firing plasma rifle instead of simply firing faster single shots - Like in Fallout New Vegas.

There's also Tesla Cannon from FO3/FNV. Hell, FNV has a lot of cool energy weapons that could totes spice the skill up in this game - Laser RCW (Laser Submachinegun/Carbine, thompson-like),  Arc Wielder (flamethrowner-like weapon made of a modified industrial tool, using electricity arcs to burn and melt stuff), Multiplas (Plasma shotgun!), the smaller FNV Plasma Rifle (change Plasma Rifle to Plasma Caster and put in TL3 or as heavy weapon?), Recharger weapons, etc.

Don't retaliate to those games as "Fallout".

Not trying to derail the thread, but I felt NV was a very good tribute to the older series.

You don't even have to rely on fallout lore necessarily to create improvised energy weapons that sound plausible. Hell, even electrifying a nightstick would a cool addition.  The possibilities are only limited by imagination.

I don't think retaliate is the right word.

Yeah, FNV is ok. The lore checks out perfectly and is clearly done by people who GET Fallout (which makes sense because a lot of the FNV developers are former BIS). I don't like FPS/ARPG Fallout anymore than any of you do, but can we agree (in order to limit derail) that FNV is at the very least a decent, respectable Fallout game and that thing produced by Bethesda is a aberration?

Yeah, just need creativity, plausibility and smarts to make a energy weapon idea. EW really needs more weapons as it is.

Only FO3/FNV energy weapon I really make a question to exclude is the Tri-Beam Laser Rifle, because laser shotguns are a retarded concept and should die in a fire - splitting a perfectly fine single laser beam into three just lowers concentrated power, the very point of a laser. Therefore, dumb.

(also, hated the fack FNV cheated by including Flamers and Gauss into Energy Weapons. That shit was just lame)

I wonder who drew it, *cough-cough*.
At least when I was constantly checking NMA's forum, that was the impression.

As it is, energy weapons actually provide quite a bit of different playstyles, and all of them are quite deadly. Long range knockouts/cripples? Hell yeah, some 35~ ap aimed shots coming right up with a laser rifle. Fan of spam, eh? Plasma pistol's got you covered with 11 ap double tap spam spam spam. Literally never run out of AP if you've invested in agility. Spice that up a bit by aiming, deadly cripple machine. Rad rifle, pow, supremely high damage piercing shots that will eat through your armor in an instance!

There's many more, though those are just the weapons I've had the most experience with. You've probably caught my drift by now. Energy weapons are a vast spectrum of varying ways of play and there are many ways to utilize them. I just want a little bit of "OOMPH" added to those SMGs and I'll be happy. More weapons wouldn't be bad, though if you think energy weapons lack versatility than you may just be doing it wrong.

Dunno why people think they're weak, hell, I've gone toe to toe alone against a couple of lawyer pvp junkies with a plasma pistol and I had them on the defensive. Like I mentioned earlier, it's just the SMGs that need a little boost and things will be perfect.

Yes but there are just less energy weapons over all compared to big guns, and small guns =/
and most of them have the same perks.
And I agree, the SMG is weak.

Those things were the opposite of what MGs are now. The first few seconds when the wielder has lots of AP they dish out a ton of damage, but after that they are fairly slow firing.

They were so broken not just because of the weapons themselves, but because they went along with some seriously overpowered characters. That's what happens when devs get greedy and allow people to go full p2w in trade for donations.

What I would enjoy seeing is some form of anti camp/area denial weapon for EW. Perhaps something like a tesla rifle that slowly damages everyone in an area. Weak in direct damage, but great as a tactical tool.
