Personal Lockers in Core W/combination
« on: January 13, 2015, 07:47:23 PM »

Dunno if possible, but would like to see a place where I can store items inside the core. I don't know if entering a combination is possible but would be awesome if it is.

Why? so I don't have to make the run back to base, drop all that shit, go back in core and run to whatever zone I was in.

"But stalker, people will just camp where item spawns with these lockers" - true, but these lockers will only have 50-150 max weight depending on what size they are so they can't put a lot there.

Where can I get these lockers? maybe by crafting them or buying from container NPC.

Pros :

* A huge time saver
* Saves Time xd
* I can go back to battle fast

Cons :

* People can camp your locker, by camp I mean place traps and wait for you to open it. So make sure to close it!
* dunno of anything else :P
* People can guess your combination and take the loot!

It can be placed anywhere so people can't block doors with this, or vision.

You can also send an NPC back to your base, hoping he doesn't die in the process. (like Dota)

Anyway, not sure i am totally agains't it, but it feel like it contradict some of the server intent.

You know the trip back to your base take sometime. Would you go back now and risk not being able to loot more ? Or would you stay and take the risk to lose what you already have ? Those questions, induced by the continuous map  would be lost with that kind of stuff.

You know that you could save the most valuable items and stay, with no risk.

The combinaison things is far too safe, in my opinion, to induce any kind of dilemma for the player.

Actually the NPC-courier sounds pretty neat ;D, although not that usefull. Just imagine 20+ players calling their "courier" npcs at the same time therefore doubling their power. (meatshields are also a power to be reckoned with)

I'm against personal lockers.
First of all, the entirety of the core will be swarmed with lockers. (or make it so that they would disappear after 1-5 days of not logging in\oppening them).
Secondly, no one will probably use them as (you've mentioned it in 1st post) people will just camp those. People are whining enough about waki-sneakers, imagine what PAIN it'd bring if you died from a waki with your secret locker opened and ready to be looted!
Thirdly, it breaks game's immersion and dem feels. If you will loot 20 PA parts from a single body, you won't immediately gather every1 who is currently sitting in TS in order to provide you an escort group. You will just ask "I'm at YYY, anybody has a locker in here?" ; "Here's a screen with a location and a password" and drop off your treasure at the designated point.

IMO dropping the loot on the ground behind a wall is as good as it should get. It should be maximum risk to keep treasure in the core. How else will noobs find treasure? I enjoyed my first week of playing more because I got to loot plenty of PVP stuff from YOU GUYS.  This will eliminate most scattered treasure. It would make gathering junk a legit activity. scavenging runs would not return to base.

Consider a gun lock? cost caps to put it on and more caps to remove it? seems silly but it just popped into my head.

I think the idea of having private stashes around the core is actually pretty cool. We need to keep people in the Core, the more time people spend in the Core, the better.
With the vertical maps, I think there's a lot more space around to prevent safes from being everywhere.
Base will still be important because there are no benches in the Core.

Such things will add a new element to ZC - go to your stash after death or stay longer in base to re-gear instead? Not to mention it speeds up ZC by having people stay on the Core after a short stash-run to decamp loot and reload on consummables. There's always the danger someone camped your stash. In fact, factions may send stragglers around to seek or camp stashes during and after ZCs.

Finding someone's locker may be either a good way to camp and kill, or actually a trap against exactly that sort of camper.

Could be cool if you could dig stuff under the ground as well and then dig it back.

This is going to make traps more important. I like the idea of people going after others' secret loot stashes.

Having stashes on the core supports the Sewer Rat playstyle.

The core is my preferred location, it's immersive and I enjoy scavenging on edge, I spend a lot of time there before TC and it's sad not to see any other players running through because that would be so powerful, if you saw another faction member run through it would be so intense. The reason no one is in the core is because of, lack of reason. These lockers are so simple but yet would add reason for people to be in the dangerous Phoenix core, adding spontaneous factional congregation or a coincidental planned attack on you and your locker, the wasteland is a fucked up place and people camping by your locker makes sense in every level of the idea, just picture it. It is both positive and negative, if you don't want campers don't put a locker there, if you want ease of access then you can have a locker.

To combat the lockers everywhere statement, there is an easy fix, you're just thinking too linearly. 1 locker per person in the core, and add other limitations like.
-Must be in a building (there are a lot of buildings in the core)
-Must be against a wall
-Could be hard to place or carry to the location
-Removed from play with (x) days inactive

I think this idea adds more depth to Ashes of Phoenix other than the control over Warmart the Whorehouse and Robco changing hands every hour to no benefit but blind competition. Which is ugly and not what the wasteland is about. It's about survival and that every second could be your last, due to another player finding you. Not you going to look for them and using all ur big gunz 2 kill waki sneaker.

And it is such a simple idea, easily implementable.

+1 from me, if that helps.

Would take a lot of effort to make it not exploitable and be used for blocking off doors / trolling.

Undeniably it would bring players back to the core and is a cool element, worth the trouble of making it Unexploitable imo

I'm sorry, but where are players if not in the core? There are in and they will be in despite any lockers. To bring players to the core, there just shoudn't be anything except core.

+1 To this.

I've refrained so far, but I don't like the idea. If you want to stash loot find a secluded room or a desk in that one part of town you think is safest. There are places in the core with really low foot traffic (Even when the numbers were high) Just stick it behind a wall and hope for the best.

I stash loot around the core for later retrieval all the time, really don't think personal lockers are necessary and personally I think its a bad idea. -1

Here are some ideas I have come up with about this feature:

I don't really think you'll have to worry about camping, the sewer varmits sorta act as the patrols do for factions. As for location, somewhere in the center of the map preferably (maybe in the sewer under warmart). The room will only be accessible by factionless players though. Seeing how they are so close to warmart, the stuff there will prob often be farmed by them giving the other factions a reason to trade with them seeing how a lot of caps can be made selling junk at a factions HQ.

Another idea would be to add a manhole in (or maybe just outside) the hospital, that way the factionless players are sort of protected by the more powerful enemies that are there. The manhole will bring you directly to the room which will only be accessible by factionless players.

The room can be acquired whenever the player is not currently in a faction (maybe even make a quest)

The room itself can consist of just a small space with a pile of hay (acting as a bed) and two containers (locker etc...)
