Roof Mod
« on: May 28, 2015, 03:14:01 PM »

Remove the see through feature please.

I think it ruins immersion and removes realism from the game.

Why should players be able to see if a container is opened from the other side of the map?

Is there anyway to completely prevent people from doing this totally?

I know it was introduced to balance the playing field, can we not remove the option entirely?

Best Wishes,

Matthew.

not without a way of checking client modifications which not only would take some effort to implement but would also constantly create more work by having to fix bypasses and also take care of cases where it inconveniences normal players. The relog timer on 2238 for example was taken out due to a rare bug that made characters inaccessible without gm help, if not even dev help in the sense that they had to fix something on the actual server each time.

So yeah, not as simple as it sounds

What about a simple global fog of war ?

What your character can't see is under a gray or black smoke.
If it is a black smoke, you see absolutly nothing, just a black screen.
If it is a gray smoke (or other system) you only see the default map. No way for you to know if there are dead bodies, loot on the ground, opened doors, opened containers, nothing that can lead to guess any player/npc activities in places you can't see. You have to check for yourself.
You might also be able to see 10% of the perception range of your allies, as you can see them too, through your squad features.

It would solve some "no roof" problems, and the "open doors" abuse too. There is no reason you should be able to see a door being opened 50 miles away.

Oh Anza, I do miss you.

My OP was to try and stop everyone from using it. As pointed out by John, it's next to impossible.

I missed you guys too  :)

This point had been debated already, it was too complicated to prevent people from removing roofs and it was clearly an advantage so an option had been added to allow regular players to play fair against people who remove roofs on client side. Again it is an option so use it if you want  ;)

I personnally dont think roof mode is the worst thing that you can find. Removing walls is much worse for immersion imo (gameplay had been improved enough for healing people behind walls etc). You also have overlay on items on the ground (not that OP but it prevents people from dropping gear in hidden places so it is bad for immersion, especially factionless people). Also replacing characters with bigger size characters to make bigger hitbox, etc...

I don't think no roof hurts the game that much  ;)

Using the no roofs mod to me feels like taking away a small part of the devs work from view. Its a very small part, but it's still something they put time into hoping people would see it. No walls is even worse, and it seems disrespectful to the artists.
