So I want to have high enough CH so I can have the best effect on the squad, but still be effective in combat. Any suggestions as to what I should do?

as a leader you would want to build more tanky as you want to be at the front to show your people and also survive more hits since your boosts are deactivated when you die. Another important question is if you want to be a squad leader or a fire team leader. As a squadleader you should have very good survivability and good PE to see far, hawkeyes perk for extra sightrange, man of steel for crit defense, perks against temporary effects etc.

I'd probably want to be FTL, because I want to be at the front lines, not hanging out in the back.
