Are there any incoming changes to SMGs?
« on: March 27, 2015, 08:39:37 AM »

After seeing all the changes to weapons recently (especially the pistols, which are really great now BTW), the SMGs look pretty lackluster, were there any plans in the works for them that I missed? Or have they been overlooked for now? I know their ammo's have changed, but there are very few weapon traits and what looks like no changes to their perks (specifically the sterling and the silenced uzi).

It's be nice to see some of the new traits on them, like dijbouty shooty etc.

Honestly I wouldn't. But a perk or something added specifically for "1 hexing" would not be so bad in my opinion, something like;

Point Blank Bandit; At a distance of 1 hex, all burst weapons deal +40% damage and all single shot weapons have +2 crit strength. (requirements; Level 21)

Dijibooti would be utterly OP on SMGs with such low AP cost to use. All dem torsocrits, and so much mag. Not to mention street samurai.

I do agree they need large changes though to be competitive. Is it possible to add damage falloff to weapons? It would work similar to one hexing, doing higher damage the closer you are maybe to a max of 2-3 hexes away.
This would fit the role SMGs are meant to cover, and would encourage use of them in close quarters. Giving SMGs suppression bonuses for Auto/Bursting might be also be an idea to entertain.

Thjis is basically how every single burst weapon in the game already works.

Scorpio is very viable, it actually fills a very tight spot between melee and flamer and other close range competitors, it just requires a special build with street samurai and hail mary for best effect. Silenced smgs will need a rework but for now, with scorpio being the [META SMG] there is no need to change anything, as the other smgs will be gotten rid of next season.

That's fair, I have not actually had a close look at the scorpio yet.

Are you planning to keep both the silenced SMGs? Or are they in the list of SMGs to be gotten rid of?

Well the Uzi and the Sterling are both cool weapons (concept and looks), but a silenced Scorpio sounds great, I'm sure it will fill the role.

It would be sweet if the Uzi fell into the category of a second silenced pistol, but having the potential for automatic firing as well. It would be a shame to see the Uzi go either way, hope it can be kept and made useful.

The tommy gun needs serious changes too. It SHOULD be a viable weapon. 50 round drum of .45? Dayum. But as it is now it's a completely crap weapon with pretty much no use due to the something like 3-5 hex burst range.

All smgs are crapp at more than 5hex. If you try to use smgs at 20hex range then you're doing it wrong anyways.

About the tommy gun, before cirn did the bleed overhaul in january, he ammo had a dmg mod od 3/2 and he just converted that to bleed (and somehow ended up with I think 65%). Now each shot gets eaten by the DT and since the bleed applies post armor, it sucks. Just one of those things that have been overlooked when stuff was changed.

All smgs are crapp at more than 5hex.

well then change that somehow or give them a different purpose

no reason to run into <5hex with SMGs when pancor and flamer do a better job

i like that it is easy to avoid friendly fire with the smg. I believe an smg may do more damage at one hex with the same number of bullets. I imagine that in contrast to a pistol or rifle it would be more likely in this situation that multiple bullets would impact the same point on the target..

theres a nice video of me killing 6 guys in one action wiht dual scorpio, kind of a proof of concept. Some of those kills you could have done with pancor, some of em could have done with flamer. However, it's important to note that pancor and flamer do not have a singleshot mode, so you always have to be the first guy in front of a window and can not support a windowtrain. Smgs are great at fighting inside of buildings, shooting through windows and such. They also dont have the same downtime a flamer or shotgun has when it comes to reload. As I said, it's a tight spot, but there are always synergies to be found and points to be made.

You make some good points, I'll reevaluate my usage of SMGs and get back to this.
