Events in the core, PvE and PvP combined
« on: October 18, 2014, 08:32:49 PM »

What if there was the chance, for the non ZC maps to spawn "events" occasionally which last for a certain amount of time, have objectives and reward players for getting involved in some way.

For example; All factions receive a message (at the top of the screen I guess), that states something along the lines of; "raiders are gathering at Warmart, take out their forces before they turn into an army" or "a supermutant force is experimenting with FEV at the hospital, stop them and recover the experiments before they complete the task".

From there, all factions have the same amount of time to respond, but it is their choice of how many people they bring, what types of weapons etc or whether they will attend at all.

When the timer runs out or all objectives have been met, the event "ends" and all participants are awarded for the objectives they have accomplished (damaging specific NPCs or objects for direct points to the players who did, or granting a whole team bonuses for items collected by 1 member or objectives completed etc).

There could be some really interesting and funny events, dependent on their location and "lore", and it could force action from groups when there is no ZC going on, being that they are NPC or moderater started, not player started (It also deters camping somewhat, as you wouldn't know if you are the first faction to arrive, and camping wouldn't get you many if any points either).

Seems like they can be fun. Maybe some of those events can be designed to promote cooperation between factions. Lets say that if the super mutants in the hospital aren't stopped the core will become dangerous with mutants roaming around for some time, making factions don't get any bonus for ZC. And while in this event you (and your faction) get penalty for every human killed, and bonus for every mutant.

Hmm, I don't know about a penalty for shooting humans, that might just lead to some kind of trolling, but yes it definitely promotes teamwork and even inter faction relations, if certain events are difficult enough, you may need other factions numbers to even complete the task, so killing each other or completing the events becomes a real choice with real consequences.

Hey! that idea is very similar to what I had proposed, to generate random environmental situations (like a plague of deathclaws that gradually runs through the core) recently.

I think your suggestions are very good and it would give new life to the game. The truth is that many of us tend to connect and find no one, it would be interesting to have something to fight than random encounters.

Agreed, and there needs to be more things that 1-2 players can do in the core, like mini missions, or trading NPC's in the core.  ( aside from the fact that there are only 14 players online)
The goto strategy was get the biggest group together that you can, and go ZC, and if you can't do that, then go loot, there isn't really much else to do in the core, but mini missions/events in the core would change that.  And with global announcements announcing this mission it will bring all players to the core, and not just those who are grouped up for ZC.

One thing I noticed about ZC was that factions would simply take turns owning the city, with a small amount of pvp in between, when all the Vtecs were on, Vtecs would own the whole city, when it was peak hours for Lawyers, Lawyers owned the whole city, and they would sit there bored for 20 minutes until they captured a zone, rinse and repeat.

But if there were events / missions that made people travel around, that did not require big groups, it would call more people into the core.
( as apposed to sending the biggest group to one location, and having vtecs win :P)

In other words TLDR:  these events/missions might not necessarily be zone specific.
Half of the people didn't ZC because they were terrified of getting stomped by the more (currently) populated faction, but this will still bring them to the core to do SOMETHING.
