I'm really curious why someone is wasting time and money for DDOSing a fonline server.

DDOS something useful for fucks sake. This makes no sense. Its like aiming your Avenger minigun at your neighbourhood cop.

Its not a DDoS, its just a exploit in the fonline-server vulnerability, so a single malicious packet just crashes the server.

For the current time I've moved the game port to 4001, hopefully the assailant doesn't read our forums while I pinpoint the problem. Thanks for your patients and continued support!

Also if any IT / security experts want to have a crack at problem feel free to message me. I have collected the traffic of the attack and have started to filter through the packets to find the offending one, from 300k packets, i've narrowed it to around 3k :p.

distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack.

The most common method is to send unlimited amounts of requests to the server machine, so much that it simply breaks, or responds to the normal traffic so slowly, it can be rendered as useless. The other one (idk if it has a different name) when a malicious packet is sent to the server, which holds an impossible command, which ends the same for the server.

It's illegal, and I believe you can even get a sentence for that.

Its been elevated to cvet as it's a problem I cannot fix without modifying the exe, or some custom launcher.  Thanks for all the support and interest tho!

Aye this whole 'server offline' thing is not really helping server population but I guess you figured that yourselves already. Hope you find a solution soon. This server is far to awesome and it hurts to see it empty.

I really appreciate your hard work so I made you a present.

Teela is absolutely right, The server population has drastically dropped, only a selective amount of people who changed their ports to 4001 roam the server.

As for the DDOS attack, I'm not pointing fingers but I wouldn't be surprised if it came from the other FO server.

Cirno you need to fix this issue ASAP or else you will lose a significant amount of your player base, not everybody checks the forums.

I recommended you change the the main post on the website aswell, and preferably add a news section

Also looking forward to the next patch
