I didn't take it as an insult at all, it's just that the whole system isn't black or white. As Ramze just said, groups should certainly try to combine as many different weapon classes as possible to fit to all situations.
Sniper chars can choose among all weapon classes to do the job: there are plenty of sniper rifles, big guns snipers as you mentioned too, and some energy weapons shoot far as well.
Close combat chars can choose between shotguns, smgs, pistols, some assault rifles, flamers, grenade launchers, some other bigs guns, plasma, pulse weapons, knives, spears, sledges, cattle prods... the list is long!
Middle range chars might rather choose between assault rifles, pistols, machine guns, miniguns,...
I'm not saying there won't be more balancing to be done for the weapons, but in any case, you can find what you need in every weapon class really. It just depends on what you like, what's efficient for you for the task you're about to do.
