cannot register
« on: November 04, 2014, 11:59:00 PM »

In attempting to register a character, I am repeatedly rebuffed with cryptic messages "Incorrect name. Probably too long or too short", or "Name must consist of letters by 70% at least. "

I have tried many combinations of letters and numbers, none seem to be accepted. Also, the error messages do not seem to apply to the changes I made. Is there a protocol for what names are acceptable, and might I know it?

Also, perhaps I am clicking on the wrong button after changing my name. The icons are very small and I am old.

Please help!

Go into your game's folder, launch a config, there, in the 'Net'  tab change your port to 4001. If this doesn't help please specify your OS.

Thanks for the reply Myakot. When I change the port as you suggested, I "cannot connect to server". I changed the port back, and received the old messages again.

Do you have any other suggestions? It is win7-64.

Thanks for your help!

AFAIN you can use only latinic alphabet in your name.
"Incorrect name. Probably too long or too short" - name should be more than 3 symbols, starting not with a number (or even not with some special symbols).

Also it could be connected to your keyboard layout.

I'll try to explain process step by step.
1. Open your game folder
2. Run Updater.exe just in case (won't solve anything)
3. Run FOconfig.exe
Spoiler for Hiden:
Change port to 4001. And press save.
4. Press play (or start the game any other way).
5. Press Registration.
6.
Spoiler for Hiden:
Press into the field where number 1 located at the image. It will open up with name and password fields. Write down name: kkknnn and password: qwerty. Add 1 number to end of name if needed.
Boost strength to 10, tag Small Guns, First Aid, Doctor (it's just for the sake of testing).
7. Press Blue Checkbox between number 3 panel and number 5 panel.

8. If it doesn't work, remember the mistake, press registration again.
9. Copy (ctrl-c) past (ctrl-v) any one of these names: kkknnn, kkknnn1, kkknnn2, kkknnn3, kkknnn4, nnnkkk1, nnnkkk2, nnnkkk3, nnnkkk4 to the name field.
10. Press Blue Checkbox.
8. If it doesn't work, remember the mistake, come back and tell us it.

Don't use those names and password for your own character, its all just for the testing.

Thanks for that very detailed reply, paragon. Hopefully, it will help other visually impaired users going forward!

I don't think the problem is with my username, I originally tried 'palgolak' so the use of non-ascii symbols was never a potential problem.

I followed your insctructions, and still receive the 'cannot connect to server' message.  I suspect it would be better to switch back to port 4000, and pursue other work arounds from there.

At least at port 4000 I was able to connect to the  server before being rejected!

But server is working on 4001 port. There's nothing which is listening for you connection at 4000. And I tested it specially for your case.

Is your Host is play.fonline-aop.net just as in first image?
Did your updater download anything from the the server?

Aha!

I left the server URL at the default value, and only changed the port number.

I have changed the url and it is functioning now. Thanks again paragon for your time and patience.

Emh... are you sure you're using Ashes Of Phoenix client? and not client for some different server? (:
